Archon Maurice Jones Named Publisher of Virginian-Pilot

Archon Maurice A. Jones of Beta Lambda Boulé was recently named Publisher of the Virginian-Pilot. He is the first African American publisher in the history of Landmark Communications which owns the newspaper. This makes the Virginian-Pilot the nation’s largest daily newspaper with an African American publisher. Archon Jones was born in South Hill, Virginia, and is married to Archousa Lisa Smith Jones. He is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College (BA-1986), Oxford University (MP-1988), and the University of Virginia (J.D. – 1992). Archon Jones is on the Board of Trustees of the Eastern Virginia Medical School and the Board of Visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University. He also serves on the boards of the Virginia Arts Festival, CHKD, the Chrispus Attucks Cultural Center, Children and Family Services (Norfolk, VA), Virginia Beach Vision, the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, the Old Dominion University Education Foundation, the Virginia College Savings Plan, the Calvert Foundation (Bethesda, MD), and the Non-Profit Finance Fund (New York, NY). Archon and Archousa Jones are proud parents of a beautiful little girl, Michela.
