Archon James H. Law is known to Lincoln University (Pa.) men and followers of athletics over the country as the great all-American full-back of the 20's and the first 4-letter man to finish Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln University with a major in biology, Cum Laude-adjudged the best Athlete and Scholar for the four-year period - and was immediately placed on the faculty as Athletic Director and Coach. His interest in athletics has continued throughout the years. He assisted in the organization and was coach of one of the participating teams of the second oldest "Bowl" games in the country - the "Prairie View Bowl." Only the Rose Bowl is older.
He was the organizer and charter president of the present Southwest Coaches and Officials Association. He served as president for a period of three years.
So far as is known he edited the first Sport Page in a Southern News Weekly, and conducted a column in the Houston Defender under the caption of "Sportatively Speaking."
However, more significant is the leadership Archon Law gave to the Classroom Teachers and Principals Association in securing equal salaries for Negro teachers in Houston, Texas. The methods and techniques used obtained the desired results without a court battle or even a suit being filed. He served as president of this organization for eight years.
Archon Law is now a teacher of biology in the Jack Yates High School, Houston, Texas. He also serves as Director of Athletics for the City of Houston Recreation Department and spends his spare time announcing or broadcasting athletic events.
Archon Law married Thelma A. Patten, M.D. They have a daughter, Pauline Anna and Archon Law has a son, James Roland, by a previous marriage.
He is a member of the National Education Association, National Science Teachers Association, State Teachers Association of Texas, Classroom Teachers and Principals Association, Houston Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, Elks, Hester House Community Organization, Interracial Committee, Alpha Phi Alpha and one of the founders of the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Society.
Archon Law's graduate work was done at Pennsylvania State College, Springfield, YMCA College, University of Michigan, and Yale University.
