On February 4, 2010, Archons James Lockhart, James Cole and Tony Rogers, Sire Archon-Elect of Alpha Rho Boulé, proudly presented a check for $50,000 on behalf of Sigma Pi Phi and the Boulé Foundation to Robert Dietrich, president of the Choose Life Children's Organization of Haiti (CLCOH), and the Hon. Ralph Latortue, Consul General of Haiti in Miami.
The check was timely, as it helped to pay the charter of the Sea Flower -- a large vessel filled to capacity with food, water, medical supplies, tents and other desperately needed aid -- which departed Miami on Friday, February 5. The ship also contained a 35-foot Sunliner boat, which had been gifted to the project. All of these items are badly needed in Haiti, especially the tents, as many Haitians have been sleeping outdoors since the earthquake, and the seasonal rains are on the way.

Mr. Dietrich traveled to Haiti on the boat to ensure the product is delivered and distributed to the locations and populations previously identified. Consul General Latortue assured the Boulé Foundation that his staff would work closely with the CLCOH to avoid any unnecessary delays with customs and other governmental bureaucracies.
On February 15 the Boulé Foundation presented its second $50,000 gift to aid those impacted by the devastating earthquake in Haiti. This second check was presented to Dr. Barth A. Green of Project Medishare for Haiti, a 501(c)(3) entity (www.projectmedishare.org) associated with the Global Institute for Community Health and Development at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. On hand to make that presentation were Grand Sire Archon Robert L. Harris, Boulé Foundation Vice Chairman James B. Lockhart, Archon James O. Cole of Alpha Rho Boulé, who has led the efforts to identify appropriate relief organizations working to assist the earthquake victims, and Archousa Glenda Newell-Harris, M.D.

A highly acclaimed surgeon, chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery and a distinguished professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Dr. Barth Green has been operating in Haiti for twenty years. He and Project Medishare have taught more than 120 Haitians to become doctors and have established several medical units throughout Haiti, providing ongoing medical attention, food, counseling and education. He is planning to build schools and is very interested in having the Boulé partner in this project.
In making the presentation to Dr. Green at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Archon Cole acknowledged that "the Boulé is taking a meaningful step with this contribution, which will assist an entity that is actually on the ground and making a real difference in the lives of the Haitian people. Moreover," he added, "Dr Green's personal commitment and his steadfast physical presence in Haiti, working directly with the victims of this tragedy, ensures that the Boulé's contribution will go directly to a designated special need of the Haiti people." Archon Cole ended by assuring that the Fraternity would be apprised of the specifics of this effort in greater detail in the coming weeks.
Grand Sire Archon Harris and Past Grand Sire Archon Anthony Hall, chairman of the Boulé Foundation, are urging Archons and Archousai to continue to make their contributions, which will be matched by the Boulé Foundation through February 28.
