“the ticking of a clock never brought about a single social re-form”

Archon Whitney M. Young, Jr., of Zeta Boulé, candidate for National Conference of Social Work President-Elect in 1965-66, was guest speaker on two occasions in Columbus, Ohio on January 14, before a luncheon club of business and civic leaders, and later at the annual meeting of the Urban League of which he is National Executive Director. He claimed "The civil rights revolution began with the creation of man," and said, "If we could get as exercised about the conditions that cause a revolution as we do about the method of the revolution, there would be no revolution.

"Time doesn't solve anything - the ticking of a clock never brought about a single social re-form. People solve things - with courage, integrity, intelligence, and common sense." He went on to say that "people don't live in poverty because they like it that way," and "the technological advance should not make man a victim but a beneficiary."
