The Boulé Journal Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary
In the first issue of the Boule Journal it is the desire of the Grand Boule to extend to all members of this fraternity the heartiest felicitations upon the character and promise of this body. Unique in its origin, slow but sure in its growth, unrivalled in the high material, intellectual and spiritual character of its membership, its influence in the world of Negro-manhood is assured.

The Talented Tenth
Some years ago I used the phrase "The Talented Tenth," meaning leadership of the Negro race in America by a trained few. Since then this idea has been criticized. It has been said that I had in mind the building of an aristocracy with neglect of the masses. This criticism has seemed even more valid because of emphasis on the meaning and power of the mass of people to which Karl Marx gave voice in the middle of the nine teenth century, and which has been growing in influence ever since. There have come other changes in these days, which a great many of us do not realize as Revolution through which we are passing. Because of this, it is necessary to examine the world about us and our thoughts and attitudes toward it. I want then to re-examine and restate the thesis of the Talented Tenth which I laid down many years ago.

There Are No Giants
God told the Israelites that they could have all the land that their eyes could see in the Promised Land. But this was not enough. They wanted God to promise them that they could have it without any struggle, without any sacrifice, without any pain and without any price. Because of their lack of faith and their negative thinking, they became obsessed with the negative emotion of fear and considered themselves in their own sight as small, insignificant and inadequate grasshoppers against imaginary giants in the Promised Land. But the fact of the matter is that when God is on your side there are no mountains too high to climb, no waters too deep to cross, and no armies too powerful to conquer. When God is with you, there are no giants! There are no giants! There are no giants!Reproduced from The Boulé Journal, Volume 48, #4, Fall, 1984

"The society of women is the element of good manners." — GoetheFrom New York to California and from Cleveland to Tallahassee, it has become a tradition among Archons in subordinate Boulés to give an annual party for the ladies, chiefly around Christmas time, when both mother nature and the ladies look their best. The 1963 Yuletide Season was no exception. This section carries feature stories of parties given around the country. Among such gorgeous affairs were those given by Alpha Boulé in Philadelphia, Tau Boulé in Cleveland, Psi Boulé in Louisville, Chi Boulé in Nashville, Alpha Epsilon Boulé in Marshall, Texas, Alpha Nu Boulé in Wichita, Kansas, Mu Boulé of New Jersey, and many others. Stories of these parties are told in the following pages by the Grapters of the respective Boulés, with accompanying pictures.
